Turkey, the bridge-country between Asia and Europe, is a place where people of different faiths and cultures have lived together peacefully for a long time. Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, the founder and first President of Turkey, improved literacy and gave women the right to vote. He transformed Hagia Sophia Mosque into a museum allowing everyone to visit. His government adopted industrialization. “The civilized world is far ahead of us and we have no choice but to catch up” he told his people.
Istanbul is the only city in the world located on two continents. Since arrival we felt secure; later we learned why neighborhoods were so special. “Mutual dependence in daily life is the true form of safety” someone said. In Istanbul neighbors care for each other despite who they are.
