Bosnia and Herzegovina, two names, one beautiful country, is in the mountains of the Balkan Peninsula. Curious about stories told of diverse cultures sharing life peacefully, I traveled to Mostar, the picturesque town with synagogues, mosques and churches lined side-by-side where Jews, Muslims and Christians have peacefully coexisted for centuries, where it’s now Bosnia and Herzegovina. This land, ruled by the Ottoman Empire and Yugoslavia became independent in 1992. Unfortunately, war then took over the region and international intervention was needed to reach peace in 1995. Despite continued economic struggles, the people are proud of this charming town, its culture and history.
