My first trip to Hungary was in 2005 one year after they had joined the European Union, and fifteen after democracy was reinstated. Later in 2019 I returned to this country of heroic history, and resilient people.
Hungary has made great contributions to science and culture, one of them with Franz Liszt known for his composition for piano “Hungarian Rhapsody”.
The architecture of its capital Budapest speaks of glorious days between past wars and revolutions. Budapest is geographically divided by the Danube River, the western bank is known as Buda and the eastern bank as Pest.
Hungary has an impressive cultural heritage; despite its relatively small size it also holds the largest semi-natural grassland in Europe.
