A gondola ride with a troubadour singing “O Sole Mio” was on the top of the wish list Franchesca and I made before we traveled to Italy in 1999.
Many years have passed since, and what we remember most vividly from the trip was not the gondola ride but the adventure we faced getting lost in Saint Mark’s Square, forcing us to take a taxi to meet the group back at the hotel.
In 2013 back in Italy I got to hike Mount Vesuvius, travel in Calabria, and experience the culture of the lovely town of Lucca in Tuscany.
