Ho Chi Ming City, formerly Saigon, was known as ‘The Pearl of the Far East’ for its beauty, culture and stylish architecture. Rich in natural resources, Vietnam attracted colonialism and in the late 1880s became the lucrative possession of the French Empire who was looking for raw materials and cheap labor. Later, occupation and division led to the Vietnam War.
I began my trip in Hanoi, the capital, where I landed on a steamy afternoon of September. Throughout my trip I heard profound stories from people who experienced good and hard times in this beautiful country. Vietnam is now a vibrant country focused in the future without forgetting the past.
